Shut-off valve
Also called: Isolation valve, Stop valve, Stop tap

A valve that isolates one fixture or one branch so the rest of the building keeps its water. Finding that the only working shut-off is the main is the difference between a half-hour job and a day, and it is worth establishing on the estimate visit rather than on the morning.
