Shortening a tree's branches back to suitable growth points to reduce its size while keeping its natural shape and leaving it able to heal. It is a different job from topping, which cuts limbs back to stubs, produces weak regrowth and damages the tree — a distinction worth explaining in the quote, because the customer asking to have a tree cut back often means the second and wants the first.
