Face frame

Also called: Framed cabinet, American cabinet

Heard most in: Construction & Contracting, Handyman

A cabinet built with a solid wood frame across the front of the box, which the doors and drawer fronts mount to. The alternative, frameless or European construction, has no frame: the doors hang off the box itself, the opening is slightly wider, and the hardware is different. The two are not interchangeable partway through a kitchen, and a customer comparing quotes is often comparing one of each without knowing it.
