Bid

A price submitted in competition with other contractors, usually against a scope that somebody else wrote. On commercial and public work a bid is a formal thing with a closing time and a required format. In residential work most people say bid when they mean quote, and no harm comes of it as long as the document itself is clear about which one it is.
