A price for one unit of work — a square foot of floor, a linear foot of cabinet, a fixture, a visit — which you multiply by the quantity. Unit pricing is fast and it is honest as long as the unit really does cost the same each time. It stops being honest when a foot of pantry and a foot of base cabinet, or a first-storey window and a third-storey one, are priced at the same rate.
