What this takes off your week

You correct an invoice and now the client is reading a different document to the one you are.
The earlier version is kept. Both of you can see what changed, when, and why.

How it works here

Drafts are edited, issued invoices are versioned

While it is a draft you change it in place. The moment it stops being one, a change writes a new version instead of overwriting what somebody is holding.

The number stays put

A new version carries the same invoice number and a version count beside it, so whichever copy somebody has, it is the same bill.

Nothing is dropped in the copy

Whether tax applies, the language it was written in, the photos on it and the costing behind it are all carried forward on purpose — dropping any one of them would silently change the document.

The specifics

Amend an issued invoice and the old one is kept, so there is never a question about what was agreed.

The reason is recorded
A change carries the reason you give it, who made it and when. With no reason given it is recorded as an update rather than left blank.
Only a draft can be deleted
Deleting anything issued is refused. There is no state in which a sent invoice disappears.
Attaching a job does not make a version
Linking a job writes the link in place, deliberately — versioning it would mint a second copy of the invoice every time somebody tidied one up.
A job belonging to another client is refused
Linking one would put somebody else's hours into this job's margin.
Banners are worked out, not stored
Overdue, part paid and amended are derived when the invoice is read, so a stored flag can never disagree with the money.
